Ingredients
2 -6 ounce packages of Mariani Sliced Apples (approx. 4 cups)
3 1/2 cups apple cider or apple juice
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
2 pastry pie crusts
1 tablespoon butter |
Directions
Preheat oven to 400° F. In a large saucepan combine dried apples and cider or juice. Bring to boil; reduce heat. Simmer covered for 15 minutes. Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Simmer uncovered for 15 minutes (juice will be slightly thickened) (If desired, add 1 Tbsp. of flour to apple mixture for less juice. For a tart tasting filling - add a squeeze of lemon juice.)
Meanwhile, prepare crust for pie. Transfer to a 9-inch pie plate. Trim crust to ½ inch beyond edge of pie plate. Fold under extra pastry. Add prepared apple filling, spreading evenly. Dot with butter.
Add top crust to apple pie. Crimp edge as desired. Flute top of crust as desired. Cover edges with foil. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil; bake for 20 to 25 minutes more or until crust is golden brown. Cool on wire rack.
